This is the story of my life that made my life painful for a really long time (spent 3 months in ICU) if anyone had suffered from pancreatitis or known someone who had, would understand my pain.

We all are very well aware of the fact that getting admission to a good school for your kid is a very big achievement now a day even when you are ready to pay a lot. So of course, I was excited when my kid got admission in a good school. I was returning after completed the admission procedure in school, it was mid-May and was hungry and dint have much water and was riding my scooty suddenly got dizzy and fell from scooty. It was a minor accident.

After sometimes, when I got my conscious back, I was in a nearby hospital, where some very kind people brought me. I was in a lot of pain. But there was no injury outside. My family had come to the hospital, as they dint see any serious injury so everyone was relieved, but I was in so much pain, and the doctor ran some tests but couldn’t find anything. Then the doctor kept me for 24 hours in observation and then they ran some tests.

After that, we got to know there was some swelling in my pancreas, which will take some time to recover. I couldn’t eat or drink as it was hurting badly. The doctor shifted me to the intensive care unit (ICU). The doctor was doing lots of things but no relief from pain. My husband, who I love very much, was very worried when the situation got very complicated. Infection in my blood was increasing due to which some liquid was getting formed in my stomach, and doctors were not taking any action and were waiting to get fixed naturally, which was not happening.

My family shifted me to another hospital in Delhi (Gangaram hospital). I am so lucky that I got such good family and friends. In this condition, they all stayed with me and took care of me. After admitted to another hospital, the tests started again. Doctors found that my pancreas duct was broken, which was the reason behind the pain and infection. I had a 7-liter fluid infection in my stomach. The doctor did some procedure, and 4 liters of fluid came out of my stomach through pipes, I had a fever and already was on high medication, doctors were scared to give any other medicine so again my family stayed and tried to lower my temperature with putting ice water on my head. There were days when one of my family members had to awake all the time to take care of me.

The doctor was continuously removing my fluid infections. They had to put 4 pipes in my stomach so infected fluids couldn’t stay in there. I could not eat anything because my digestive system was broken, till the time the duct was healed, I had one pipe through my nose which was bypassing the pancreas and gave me liquid food. My husband took care of me really well. He gave me another life.

There is a saying ‘Action speaks louder than words’, Now I know what that actually means. Of Course, at some level, I was angry with God, why this minor accident turned into this tragedy for me and my family.

Doctors had to do stunts to add pancreas duct which was too painful for me. Hospital bills were too high that health insurance could not cover that. Again my whole family came forward to help. In short, they were with us at every step when we needed the most.

Special Thanks to my husband’s HR-Shivika Tondon, She was so supportive the whole time, helped us with insurance, approved for all required leaves. My husband was on leave for 2 months completely. He works in IDFC bank. If you want to achieve the work-life balance you need an HR like her. She is really inspiring.

Finally, when I got discharged from hospital, that was the happy day of my life, I could see my home, my baby and everyone but not the happiest moment as I still had 3 pipes in my stomach to remove the infected fluid.

After 6 months of that accident, finally, I am able to walk, eat anything and most importantly hug my baby without worries.

I have heard people’s life got changed after one setback, for me life is the same, but I am just happy that I lived and able to appreciate small things. I am more close to my family.

So start living, my friends, don’t wait for some accident to change your life. Learn from other’s pain and avoid happening that with you.

One more thing, if your body is asking for rest, gives it that. Give whatever your body is asking, doesn’t overdose it. Take proper care of it. Health is the biggest treasure of your life.
